About Me

A New Steering Wheel

My husband is a frugal person. The two of us are still living in the starter home he purchased before we met nearly twenty years ago. He is driving a truck he bought eighteen years ago. While he still adores his truck, he knows he needs to make some necessary repairs to it in order to keep it running smoothly. For instance, in the near future, he expects to replace the automobile’s motor. He also needs to get the heater in his vehicle fixed. Because the truck is so old, its interior has seen better days. The seats need some new upholstery. And, he is in desperate need of a new steering wheel. I would like to purchase this item for my spouse for the upcoming holidays. On this blog, you will discover the latest trends in steering wheels designed for trucks. Enjoy!

Adding More Versatility To Your Pickup Truck With A Truck Topper

by Kim Murphy

Owning a pickup truck allows you to haul many things and use the truck for many tasks, but there are times when having an open cargo bed can be a problem. Rain, snow, and other weather events can sometimes be an issue, but adding a truck topper to the bed changes that and offers some protection for the cargo and extend the use of the truck bed.

Truck Topper Styles

When you start looking at truck toppers, you will see many different styles available from several different manufacturers. Fiberglass toppers are among the most common, and they offer greater durability. However, they are heavy, so removing or installing one alone can be more challenging. They are molded in colors that match many truck paint colors and offer various window options you can choose from as well.

Aluminum truck toppers are another option and are lighter weight but are typically not as tall, so they may limit the height of the cargo you can put in the truck. If you are going to take the topper off the truck regularly, the aluminum material makes it easier to handle because of the reduced weight. Consider how you will use the topper before purchasing one and look at the available styles and models so you are sure you find the one that will work best for you.

Lights and Accessories

When you are looking at truck toppers, you may want a light inside the cargo area or want windows that open for ventilation. Truck toppers have many options that you may need, and if you are buying a new topper from a dealer, ask them about the additional features you can add.

For example, if you are adding lights inside the truck topper, ask your dealer about battery-powered LED lighting so you can avoid having to add a wiring pigtail to the truck that needs to be connected when putting the topper on. LED lights do not draw much power, so if you are only going to use them occasionally, a battery-operated light is probably all you will need.

Tinting windows are often available, and in some cases, you can add a lightweight rack to the outside of the topper that will allow you to carry light items on top if they are too long to fit inside the truck's cargo box. Adding some of these accessories may mean that your truck topper will need to be custom ordered for you, but some larger dealers may have a truck topper in stock that has the accessories you want.
